Ready when you are

Keep awake for

Keep this tab visible — browsers pause wake locks on hidden or minimized tabs.

What NoScreenSleep does

Every operating system turns the screen off after a few idle minutes to save power. That's helpful — except when you're presenting, reading, monitoring a process or following a recipe. NoScreenSleep uses your browser's Screen Wake Lock API to tell the OS “this screen needs to stay on” — no settings changed, no software installed, nothing to undo afterwards.

When you're done, tap stop or let the timer release the lock for you. Your device returns to its normal behavior the moment you do.

How it works

  1. Choose a duration

Pick Forever, 1 hour or a custom time. The tool remembers your choice for next time.

  2. Tap the button

Your browser asks the operating system to hold a screen wake lock. The display stays on with no dimming and no timeout.

  3. Keep the tab visible

Browsers release wake locks on hidden tabs. Leave NoScreenSleep in the foreground and it runs until you stop it or the timer ends.

When people use it

  • Talks, demos & screensharing

Nothing kills a presentation like a lock screen. Keep the display alive while you talk.

  • Video calls

Stay visible on long calls without touching the mouse every few minutes.

  • Dashboards & monitoring

Watch a build, a deploy, a live dashboard or a security feed without the screen timing out.

  • Big downloads & uploads

Display sleep often interrupts long transfers. Keep the screen on until they finish.

  • Recipes in the kitchen

Follow a recipe with messy hands — no tapping the screen with your elbow.

  • Reading & reference

Sheet music, manuals, long documents — the page stays up as long as you need it.

Why people switch to NoScreenSleep

  • Instant, even on hotel Wi-Fi

Pre-rendered pages, system fonts and almost no JavaScript — most wake-lock sites ship ten times the code.

  • Actually private

No ads, no analytics, no cookies. Your preferences live in your own browser and never leave it.

  • Honest about limits

Hidden tabs, closed lids, battery saver — we say upfront what a web page can't do and link the OS settings as backup.

  • No interruptions

No pop-ups, newsletter walls or premium tiers. One page, one job, free forever.

Browser compatibility

The tool works in every major modern browser. Two rules always apply: the page must be served over HTTPS, and the tab must stay visible.

When the screen still turns off

  • The tab was hidden. Browsers release wake locks on background tabs. Keep NoScreenSleep visible — a separate window next to your work is perfect.
  • Battery saver or very low battery. Some systems ignore wake-lock requests to protect the battery. Plug in or disable battery saver.
  • The system has its own sleep timer. A wake lock guards the display. If the whole machine still sleeps, adjust the OS-side timer following our prevent screen sleep guide.

Frequently asked questions

Is NoScreenSleep really free?

Yes — completely. There's no account, no subscription, no download and no ads. The tool runs entirely in your browser, so it costs us almost nothing to provide.

Does it work when the tab is in the background?

No — browsers only allow wake locks on visible tabs. When you switch tabs or minimize the window, the lock pauses and the countdown keeps running. Return to the tab and the lock switches back on automatically.

Can it keep my screen awake if I close the laptop lid?

No. Closing the lid triggers sleep at the operating-system level, which no website can override. The same applies to pressing the power button or choosing Sleep from a menu.

Does it prevent the whole computer from sleeping?

It prevents the display from sleeping, which is what interrupts most tasks. Some computers also have a separate system-sleep timer — for that, adjust your OS power settings using our Windows or Mac guides.

Does it work on phones and tablets?

Yes, on most modern devices: Safari and other browsers on iOS 16.4+, and Chrome, Edge, Samsung Internet or Firefox on Android. The tab must stay open and visible.

Will it drain my battery?

Keeping the screen on uses power — that's the point of the tool. Set a timer so it releases automatically, and plug in for long sessions.

Do you track anything about me?

No. Your chosen duration is stored in your own browser's local storage so it's remembered next visit. There are no analytics, cookies or accounts. Details are on the privacy page.

Why does my screen still turn off with the tool running?

The most common cause is a hidden or minimized tab — wake locks cannot stay active there. Battery-saver mode, very low battery, or a locked screen can also force sleep. Keep the tab visible and the device charged.
